The Klondike Derby will be held

  • February 1 2008 (optional check-in).
  • February 2 2008 (Klondike events).
  • February 3 2008 (optional troop camping).
  • Camping Friday and Saturday nights is encouraged.

    Klondike Schedule

    Friday, February 1st (for units camping)
    • Noon - 8:00 PM: arrive, check in, set up camp, build snow caves
    • 9:00 PM: Flag Retirement, bring-your-own cracker-barrel and Dutch-Oven taste-off
    • 10:00 PM: lights out
    Saturday, February 2nd
    • 6:00 AM: Wake up call, troop breakfast, camp break-down
    • 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM: Late check-in and registration
    • 8:30 AM: Opening and Flag Ceremony, event cards to SPLs
    • 9:00 AM: Activities begin
    • 1:00 PM: Hobo Stew Lunch at Dining Hall
    • 1:45 PM: Awards ceremony

    Cold Weather Gear

    Proper winter clothing is essential, most importantly good boots.
    Scouts are not allowed to attend in sneakers or sports shoes.
    Any Scout improperly dressed will get wet and cold
    and have to spend the day inside drying off.

    • Warm layered clothing and warm hat
    • Wool or synthetic clothing - not cotton
    • Waterproof boots - no tennis shoes
    • Extra socks
    • Water
    • Sunscreen and sunglasses

    Patrol Gear

    Each patrol should have the following for competition:
    • Notebook and pencil
    • Compass
    • Knowledge and use of knots and lashings
    • Firemaking kit (flint and steel, etc. - NOT matches or chemicals)
    • Scout Handbook
    • Lunch (can of soup, stew etc. for each person, for Hobo Stew Lunch)
    • First Aid kit (2-3 sterile dressings, 1-2 compresses, 7-8 cravat or triangular bandages)
    • Klondike sled (optional but highly encouraged)
