ROUNDTABLE RAMBLINGS
Training
The BSA Roundtable for January (Jan 13) will center around four of the events that will be found in the upcoming CAPITAL DISTRICT KLONDIKE (February 4-6, at Camp Morrison).
The four areas that will be covered are:
(1) Winter Shelters: Tents, Igloos, Snow Caves, Quinzees and Emergency Shelters will be presented.
(2) Fire Building: Importance of Fire in winter time, Fuel Types, Fire Lays and Fire Starting using several different means, including emergency fire building.
(3) Pioneering: Lashing advantages/disadvantages in winter time.
(4) First Aid: Cold Weather Injuries, Transport and Care.
Administrative
Very few of the handouts used for training are provided in paper form; instead, a list of web sites, PowerPoint Presentations and supporting documentation will be available. All materials referenced will be included in this handout.
All notes, presentations and handouts from each months training will be available for download from my computer, which I carry with me.
Data may be copied to either CD-ROM an External Data Drive (USB) or directly to another computer. I also have the capability to copy to a Floppy Disk, but owing to the size of the files and programs, this will not be an option for extensive copying.
I am finalizing a list of training topics for the next year, and will publish it, in the very near future, on the Capital District News website. If you have a particular area of interest, you may email me with your ideas, and I will do my best to include it in an upcoming training session. I can assure you, the subjects will be broad, well presented, and will include sufficient information to allow you to incorporate it directly into your Troop program.
I look forward to meeting all of you and making this and all training useful and informative.
