RoundTable Ramblings

Happy March all you Scouter’s out there!

This last month, we had a presentation on Communication and communicate we did. The attendance was good, and the questions were great. This was the second Roundtable I’ve held and I can proudly say, we are off to a great start. Thanks to all of you who attended and gave me your comments. A special thanks to Mr. Jerry Cagen, Eagle Academy, for his discussion on “How to Talk with Your Teenager”. It was very informative and much appreciated.

Last month I also began asking for Troops to step up and host our flag presentation and retirement. I was able to get a volunteer for this month, but don’t have any for the months following. I hope you will consider showing off your Troop’s flag skills by signing up for one of our future months. A list showing the available months will be found at the door during check-in.

Don’t you just hate it when a parent comes up to you and asks, “What gear do I need to get my son so he can go camping with the Troop”? How about when an Adult comes up and asks the same question? Well, we’re going to try and answer that question this month, while keeping the cost down. Usually there is enough “Sticker Shock” when we talk about the uniform, so let’s not add panic to the equation.

This month’s theme will be Personal and Troop Equipment (A Discussion).

The focus will be on providing a list of low cost personal items (“starting gear”), for incoming Scouts. We will also discuss what suggested Community/Troop gear is needed by a Unit. This will be a great time for our “Seasoned Scouters” to tell us what has worked for their Scouts and Troop. Hopefully, it will be a good learning opportunity for all involved.

There will be a layout of all the suggested personal items and several upgrades, for viewing. I look forward to see all of you there.

As always, the files and handouts I use for the Roundtable will be available for download to your flash drive or CD, so bring them if you have them. Those of you that got CDs from me last month, I can continue to copy this month's files to the same CD, if you bring it back. You may also download them later from the web.
