A non-profit organization dedicated to promoting recreational water safety in the United States, the National Water Safety Congress was organized in 1951 in response to a growing number

of recreation related drownings. The Congress promotes two basic approaches to reduce water recreation fatalities, injuries, and property damage --- education and enforcement. Congress membership includes water safety specialists from federal, state, and local governments, water/flood control authorities, water oriented utility companies, public safety agencies, water safety councils, and private individuals.

Attendees at the 9th annual 2005 International Boating and Water Safety Summit gather to set a world record for the largest number of life jackets inflated at one time.
